Dum pukht! Pure nomadic tradition

with the fusion of different cultures the fusion of cuisine is sure to happen. The word Dum Pukht refers to a style of cooking in which meat or vegetables are sealed in a clay pot and cooked on a slow fire over a period of time. the cooking style has its root in the era of Nawab Seraj ud Dullah and from then on this style of cooking has found its way into different cuisines including the Baloch and Afghan.

The dish in the picture is Lamb Dum Pukht that is being served in Namak Resturant Lahore. A delicious mix of tomato and mint yogurt chatnis brings the taste to a whole new level and just to add to it a 3 foot Qandhari naan goes quite well with it.

light on the stomach ; a taste that will lure you in many times, the Lamb Dum Pukht is indeed a must have!

Kunna, dish of the kings

Kunna Gosht ,comes from an area which is largely known for its furniture and wood work. A place called Chinniot . This chinnioti dish is typically prepared with lamb and essentially in a clay pot and like wise is served in one as well. (Kunna means clay pot)

While any meat variety can be used; usually the meat is used from the calf muscle of a lamb also known as the machli. Bone is broken in two large pieces but the meat is not sliced and left mostly intact.

While some may think that the taste should resemble Nihari, (another great dish made of lamb or beef), kunna Gosht differs greatly from it in taste and make.

served with Naan or Tandoori roti, Kunna gosht is sure to make your eager buds satisfied with its richness and taste.

Food the perfect remedy of tension!

When you can not think straight and need a massive dose of inspiration! Because nothing motivates better than good food!

I've been a great fan of the ambiance, the feel and food of Jamin Java Café. This here is the Grilled Chicken Sandwich,  one of many sandwiches available at the joint. Served with a good amount of fries,  this sandwich is good for two people and gives a good mix of flavours. Another of their sandwich specialities is the Roast Beef Sandwich that puts a lot of Café sandwiches to shame.

So next time when you do happen to drop by and you're in a mood of some light bites,  then these sandwiches might be a good choice to set the mood right.

It can't get any desi-er than this!

Laddu peethiyan!
Snacks that are adored all around by kakay n kakkiyan alike!

These are picked from Sanda bazar.  Some of the finest Laddu Peethiyan are made there!

Enjoy!

Time for some ice cream

I know Jamin Java cafe isn't the best place for ice cream but i just love the combos i can get and the taste is pretty good as well!

Its worth a stop when you have time to jam and a couple of friends to hang out with!

Pic shows a combo,  Alska and after 8 mint in vanilla ice cream. Yumm!

Chappli kabaab!

I'm sure most of you had a taste of chappli kabab in lahore and know a lot of joints too,  this here however is a pic of a few at a relatively humble kabab wala in model town A block Market.

Do check it out!

Gawal mandi, halwa poori

Perhaps the best place in lahore to have halwa poori and lassi is gawal mandi. Like my friend use to call it,  its not lassi my dear! Its liquid ecstasy! Combined with halwa poori,  it will give you a stomach full till late after noon and a head spin till even longer :-P

Finally... It will be blogged!

Food and lahore go hand in hand.  While most will be looking around for high prestige restaurants,  I,  on the other hand,  am a lover of desi food and constantly on the move to taste just that!

What started off as a joke to a dear friend would finally now be a part of a blog.
